Rudolph Matas is a public school in Jefferson Parish. Our student body consist of approximately 610 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grades; 9% have special needs including some that are wheelchair bound.
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax exempt organization, is a group of dedicated parents, grandparents, and guardians who volunteer their time to help the school achieve a higher level of education for our students. To achieve their goals, the PTO sponsors many different fundraising events during the school year. Last year, they were very successful and raised approximately $40,000. $30,439.80 was given to the school to purchase megaphones and computers/printers for the students.
On June 25, 2018, Rudolph Matas School PTO was awarded a $20,000 playground grant from @Keurig Dr Pepper and @KaBOOM! after entering the Let's Play Upgrade Your Play video contest! As part of the contest, the PTO submitted an awesome video demonstrating why play is important for kids and the need for a new playground at our school.
On July 10, 2018, Rudolph Matas School PTO launched their fundraising campaign for an all access playground at their first Playground Progress Meeting. The vision for the playground will be completed in phases - focusing first with special needs and the younger grades. In attendance were parents, grandparents, teachers, students, staff, and special guests: Honorable Paul D. Johnson, Councilman District 2; Dr. Cade Brumley, JPPSS Superintendent; Mr. Larry Dale, Vice President District VI, Jefferson Parish School Board; and Mr. Ted Beasley, JPPSS Communications Director. Mr. Scott Deemer, Principal; Mrs. Liz Gurtner, Assistant Principal; Ms. Eve Werner, Manager with DynaPlay; and Linda & Lee Prout, a very sweet couple from Algiers who have committed to help us build our playground, were all present. The Rudolph Matas School PTO appreciates their support!
